Remember Jack Benny?

Jack Benny was a significant part of the entertainment landscape of the 1940s and 1950s into the 1960s. With a unique style and brand of humor, he quickly became a member of comedy royalty. He was so influential, his work remains important today.

Benny was born Benjamin Kubelsky and was drawn to the world of entertainment as a child. His first interest was music but his focus quickly changed as he grew into the entertainer America would come to know and love. He performed in vaudeville before becoming a household name with The Jack Benny Program, his weekly radio show that ran from 1932 to 1948 on NBC and then from 1949 to 1955 on CBS. This was one of the most highly-rated radio programs of the era.

When he transitioned into television, Benny’s star really began to rise. The TV version of The Jack Benny Program ran from 1950 to 1965. This was certainly an impressive run. In addition, he appeared in several movies and had a significant career as a stand-up comedian. One thing is for sure, he definitely changed entertainment forever.
