Chubby Checker was a big deal in the early 1960s. His music was fun, energetic, and got people moving. You can’t deny the impact of a song that comes with its own dance, and “The Twist” inspired Americans everywhere to his the dance floor.

This song is an often overlooked piece of music history. In many ways, the song is the perfect representation of the 1960s hippie movement. However, its popularity at the end of the decade stood as a precursor to the soul music and even disco that marked the 1970s.

Okay, so The Monkees didn’t write their own songs. Let’s look past that for a moment to remember the huge impact they had on the music scene. “I’m a Believer” (which was written by Niel Diamond) was a massive hit thanks in large part to the style and charm The Monkees brought to their rendition.
