Remember These 1950s Halloween Candies?

Who doesn’t love candy? Well, probably our dentist, but our sweet tooth isn’t going anywhere. Halloween is as close to a national day of candy celebration as we can get, so this October, we are looking back at some of the more interesting sugary creations to come out of the 1950s.

Some of the sweet treats that came out during that decade may sound strange today, while others remain popular. Below are some of the unique candies that emerged from the 1950s

Satellite Wafers Were a Very 1950s Candy

NECCO Wafers had been around for quite some time, but these added a 1950s twist. Responding to the increasing interest in space expiration, these flying-saucer-shaped snacks brought a fun sci-fi element to the delicious sweet. They are also perfect for a little alien fun on Halloween.

Rocky Road. Not the Ice Cream, the Candy Bar

This is one we don’t hear too much about these days. The Rocky Road candy bar was a unique blend of milk chocolate and marshmallow. While this one can still be found if you know where to look, it is not quite as popular as it was back then.

Fizzies Were Bubbly Fun

This one is not exactly a candy, but it is uniquely ‘50s. As strange as it may sound, these were a lot like Alka Seltzer but with a better flavor. 1950s kids enjoyed the fruity, fizzy beverages they got by dropping these tablets in a glass of water. Bubbling witch’s cauldron anyone?

Still Popular Today, These Candies Came from the ‘50s too.

Sure, some of the discontinued and hard-to-find candies of the past are dearly missed, but some of our favorite 1950 candies are still dropping into trick-or-treat bags in 2024.

  • Hot Tamales
  • Pixy Sticks
  • Peanut M&Ms
  • Peeps (Yeah, we know they’re not Halloween candy, but we still can’t resist them.)
  • Pez
