Weird ’40s and ’50s foods to Try This Thanksgiving

We found some of the weirdest 1950s recipies and most unapatizing 1940s recipes around. We wouldn’t be too excited

Potato and Hot Dog Salad

The 1940s necesitated a lot of low-budget creative meals. It was a time of rationing which lead to dishes that combined diverse ingredients. Potatoes, hot dogs, and salad do not sound like the most delectable combination.

Ham And Bananas Hollandaise

Who doesn’t like bananas wrapped in ham and coated in a Hollandaise sauce? We suspect the answer would be most people. Still, this was included in McCall’s Great American Recipe Card Collection.

Liver Sausage Pineapple

Okay, so this one does not include actual pineapple, instead, it’s a collection of ingredients formed into a pineapple shape. These ingredients are liver sausage, gelatin, and Worcestershire sauce, with yellow “frosting” that’s designed to look like pineapple flesh made from gelatinous mayonnaise.

Tuna And Jell-O Pie

If you were to pick two food items that definitely don’t go together, Tuna and Jell-O might just top the list. Weirdly, this is not only a real recipe, but it won a  Betty Crocker cooking contest in 1965.
